SMOFI Annual Giving Campaign

Call to Action

Beginning Tuesday November 30, 2021, through December 31, 2021, the Southeast Michigan Omega Foundation, Incorporated (SMOFI) needs your support.  Our African American male youth need your donations during this period to enhance their chances at success in life.  From our mentoring program to our college scholarship program, SMOFI is making a difference.  Please make your donation today.

The Issues

Success starts with good guidance at home, but when that is missing, our youth are jeopardized by their lack of self-esteem, academic and social skills.  These deficiencies can be devastating to their long-term development and success.

OMEGA Academy Mentoring Program

The Southeast Michigan Omega Foundation, Incorporated has been filling the gap through its OMEGA Academy Mentoring Program for the past ten years.  We intentionally focus our mentoring efforts  on male youth between the 6th through 12th grade.  We positively shape their future by providing:

  • Self-esteem seminars to build confidence for life
  • Academic support to assist those students who need help
  • Social interaction (face-to-face, social media, and group team building)

Each year this program services 20+ males each week during the school year.  Designed and operated by academicians, these youth are getting some of the best training offered by the professionals.  Historically, young African American men have faced huge societal challenges and social barriers towards reaching their full potential.  High school dropout and incarceration rates are high among young African American men.  For those that make it to college, perils still exist.  According to the most recent statistics, the nationwide college rate for African American students is 42%, a full 20% below white counterparts.  The SMOFI scholar college graduation rate is 88%, more than twice the national average!

Summary

Most of us can acknowledge how support and mentorship over the years has changed our lives.  Your giving will go a long way in shaping the future of a young African American male towards Manhood and self-reliance.  Please act.  Your donation is tax deductible in accordance with federal law.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the goal of SMOFI is to mentor young African American males and provide them with scholarship opportunities at the college level.

Thank you,
