Our mentoring programs connect people who have similar skills and knowledge (mentors) with individuals (mentees) who need or want the same skills to move up in work, skill level or school performance. Mentor program helps break down barriers and create opportunities for success. It is our intent to implement proven, research-based best practices to achieve the desired outcomes listed below.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, financial need and other relevant factors. Each award is $1,500 and may be renewed for up to three consecutive additional years. Since 2001, we have awarded college scholarships to graduating high school students, amounting to over $300,000. Our scholars have maintained an impressive 88% graduation rate.
SMOFI Vision Statement for Mentoring envisions, “A community in which every youth experiences nurturing one-to-one relationships and community support, which in turn allows each of them to develop into their full potential, capable of making informed, responsible decisions as an involved member of our community”.
