ABOUT US

The Southeast Michigan Omega Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization. We were originally incorporated as the Detroit Omega Foundation in 1982. However, in 2014, members of other local non-profits realized that we were all focused on the same target audience with the same objectives – mentoring young African American males and providing them with scholarship opportunities at the college level. As a result of the common interests, a strategic merger took place consolidating the Greater Ann Arbor Omega and Omega C.A.R.E.S. Foundations with the Detroit Omega Foundation, Incorporated in January 2015. As a result, the Detroit Omega Foundation, Incorporated is now doing business as the Southeast Michigan Foundation, Inc. (SMOFI).

The goal of SMOFI is to expand its mentoring and scholarship capabilities to southern Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties, and to be recognized as a highly distinguished and professionally managed mentoring and scholarship foundation in Southeast Michigan.

Our mission is, as it always has been, “To have a strong, positive and uplifting impact on the southeast Michigan youth and their families by providing them with programs and services that educate, mentor, support and broaden their horizons.” Through our newly formed organization, we will have greater opportunities to fulfill this mission on a larger scale.
